While in Renton on a chilly winter evening I ran across the recently renovated South Burnett Linear Park. The park is located very close to downtown Renton and has all the usual amenities including a very cool sculpture at the south end of the park called Equi, which depicts the various shapes of a nearly life size moving horse using yellow steel tubes.

Here’s a couple hi-resolution snowy residential shots along 17th Ave in Capitol Hill, taken during my trek through the great white expanse with my Panoscan a week or so ago. These older homes really look great in the snow don’t they?

In 1999 work began on a new memorial at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Renton, Washington, the final resting place of Seattleite and music icon Jimi Hendrix. Although not completely finished (more additions are yet to be made), it was commemorated in 2002. The new memorial replaces what was once a small family plot with one that is much larger, in order to accommodate growing numbers of visitors and a Hendrix family that has grown and extended much over the years since Jimi’s untimely death in 1970.

Hey I know the snow has long melted, but why not re-live the treacherous driving conditions right here on VR Seattle? So here it is- two city transit buses stuck in the morning snow on a slippery Capitol Hill (they even had tire chains on). The yellow cab you see in the image also had issues and ended up turning around to go back down the hill.

Yes, proof that snow melts slower on the internet.

Here’s a few staple images from Pioneer Square- the Pergola at Pioneer Place Park, a view of Occidental Square Park, and of course the lovely Alaskan Way Viaduct (whose days are numbered) that just ruins everything on our waterfront. But of course maybe when folks see just how beautiful and fresh it looks in the snow they might change their mind no?

While shooting these images after a night of fresh fallen snow in Volunteer Park, I caught a man driving through the park in a very cool old Land Rover. Definitely the way to travel the Seattle snowscape in style! The second shot is in front of the Asian Art Museum with a view across the Volunteer Park reservoir to the Space Needle in the distance.

Hey Hammering Man, whatcha working on? Could that be a nice handy 10ft metal snowplow blade?

How about using it to scrape that bit of road around you hmm? Didn’t think so.

I was on the corner for quite a spell shooting my pictures, big strong Hammering Man. Didn’t see you help push or pull a single car, truck or bus up that icy University Ave at all did I.

Anyhow, enjoy this panorama of snow covered 1st Ave & University. And yes, that is the Hammering Man in front of the Seattle Art Museum- indifferent to our winter struggle, and taunting me freezing in my layers of winter clothing by standing there completely nude!

Here’s a couple of panoramas to show the contrast of winter 2008 at Westlake Center and approximately the same location in the summer of 2006. The winter shot was taken sunday, December 21st at around 9am and shows just how the snow kept people away that morning in the last days of shopping just before Christmas.

Local Seattle artist Juan Alonso (whom I photographed in his Pioneer Square studio last year) gave me access to his building’s rooftop in Capitol Hill so I could get this great panoramic shot of snow covered Seattle. Thanks Juan!

Wow- having several days of big snow around Seattle has had me hoofing it all over the place with my cameras shooting as many VR panoramas as I could!
